SPORTS: Port Angeles 12U softball team raising money for World Series trip

PORT ANGELES — After earning their way on the field, now the North Olympic 12U softball team needs to earn $12,000 to cover the costs of playing in the Babe Ruth World Series in Alachua, Fla.

And they need to earn the money fast. Their flight to Florida leaves Thursday, Aug. 2.

Airline tickets are provided by the Babe Ruth organization, but the team needs to pay for the hotel, means and transportation (car rental) while in Florida.

The team will return home Aug. 9.

To help raise this money, the team has launched a fundraising effort, which includes a bake sale and a car wash.

The bake sale is set for Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jim’s Pharmacy and Albertsons in Port Angeles.

The car wash will take place Saturday, also from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Sound Bank at 110 Alder Street in Port Angeles.

Donations can be made to the Port Angeles Girls Fastpitch Association at First Federal Bank, P.O. Box 351, Port Angeles, WA, 98362.

Donations are also accepted at First Federal Band branches in Sequim, Port Townsend and Forks.

For additional information, contact Randy Steinman, fundraising chair for North Olympic team, at 360-775-6739 or rsteinman@tfon.com.

The 12U North Olympic team earned a berth to the Babe Ruth World Series by winning the Northwest Regional Tournament in Hoquaim on Sunday, July 22.

The regional tournament was made up of teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and British Columbia.
