PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team won the final game before the start of its NWAACC schedule, beating the Victoria Highlanders reserves 5-1 at Willy Sigmar Field.
Alex Martinez added a pair of goals in Saturday’s game to remain the NWAACC’s goal leader with eight on the season.
Martinez scored in the 12th minute and the 65th minute. His first goal was assisted by Corbyn May, and Ash Apollon set up the second score.
Victor Sanchez’s unassisted goal gave the Pirates ahead 2-0 at halftime.
Apollon scored a goal of his own in the 75th minute to move into sole possession of second place in the conference’s goal scoring rankings. Kalei Gallarde set up Apollon’s goal.
Dawda Dibba set up Lachlan Bond for a goal in the 90th minute.
The Pirates outshot the Highlanders 15-3.
“We finished most of our chances, especially in the second half,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.
“Unfortunately, we gave up another goal. We are doing a great job scoring, now we need to get more clean sheets.”
Goalkeeper Angel Guerra made four saves for the Pirates.
Peninsula (5-0-1) plays at South Puget Sound (2-0-0) on Wednesday afternoon.
