SPORTS: Peninsula College men’s soccer team remains unbeaten

COOS BAY, Ore. — Miguel Gonzalez continued his torrid scoring pace as the Peninsula College men’s soccer team remained unbeaten Wednesday.

The Yelm freshman netted a pair of goals to vault the Pirates to a 3-0 win at Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Those were the sixth and seventh goals of the season for Gonzalez, now the NWAACC’s leading scorer.

The win puts Peninsula at 4-0-2 on the season.

Patrick Wolverton started the Pirate scoring after putting a Brian Holguin cross in the back of the net in the seventh minute.

Gonzalez added his two scores in the 36th and 46th minutes on assists from Anthony Aguilar and Brent Ricigliano.

Pirates goalkeeper Jared Wilson had three saves for the Pirates in net.

It was Peninsula’s second shutout this year.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

PENINSULA 2, SW OREGON 1

COOS BAY — Jessica Farrell scored both of the Pirates’ goals Wednesday as they moved to 2-2-1 in their inaugural season.

Farrell had a goal in each half, scoring her first in the 23rd minute on a 40-yard free kick, then netting her second in the 70th minute on a Tabitha Bare assist.

Ashley Manker had four saves for Peninsula, including a critical one in the final minute to preserve the win.

Peninsula outshot Southwestern Oregon 20-8.

The NWAACC doubleheader was the first of three straight on the road for the men and women. Both play at Clark today.
