SPORTS: Peninsula College men’s and women’s soccer teams cruise to big wins

TUKWILA — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team beat defending North Division champion Everett 3-1 in a nonleague preseason game.

Kendra Miner scored first off a Kelsie Ng cornerkick in the eighth minute at the Starfire Complex on Wednesday.

Annie Armstrong doubled the lead in the 18th minute with a header off of a Deidra Woodward cross.

Everett answered in the 27th minute to make it 2-1.

Emilia Stefanko pushed the lead to 3-1 when she finished a loose ball set up by Ng.

Peninsula’s Denae Brooks made three saves in the victory.

The Pirates outshot the Trojans 15-4 and took four corner kicks while giving up none.

“It was another solid effort,” Peninsula coach Kanyon Anderson said.

“Everett is a top-tier team, so this win is definitely something to be proud of.

“We seem to have established ourselves as an early favorite to challenge for the West Division and NWAACC titles, which was our goal at this tournament.”
