SPORTS: Peninsula College beats Edmonds 2-1 in men’s soccer

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team shaded Edmonds 2-1 at Clark Community College on Tuesday.

The Pirates were ahead 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals by Miguel Gonzalez at 27 minutes and Patrick Wolverton at 40 minutes.

Aaron Funderburk assisted on the first goal and Brian Holguin had the assist on the second goal.

Edmonds scored in the 90th minute.

Peninsula outshot Edmonds 20-6. Goalkeeper Alec Risk had four saves.

“It was a very sloppy game with lots of rain, which created a very wet and muddy field,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.

“It was great to get two strikers scoring goals. Defense did a great job but we gave up a late free-kick goal in injury time of the game.”

Peninsula next plays Walla Walla at Clark today at noon.
