EVERETT — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team jumped into a tie for second place in the NWAACC standings by shading Everett 101-96 in overtime Wednesday night.
The Pirate women lost to Everett as the two schools split games.
In men’s action, both teams now are 3-1 in the North Division while the Pirates are 12-5 overall and the Trojans are 10-6.
The Pirates, ranked second in the current NWAACC Alaska Airlines Polls, were led by Salim Gloyd’s 30 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field and 4 of 7 from beyond the 3-point line.
Xavier Bazile was close behind with 23 points while Djuan Smith and Aaron Clark also scored in double figures, 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Pirates were strong on the boards, out-rebounding the Trojans 60-43 with Smith, Bazile and Arnold Anderson all pulling down 12 boards each and Gloyd grabbing 11.
TreShawn King Dunbar had a team-high eight assists while Anderson led the Pirates with four steals.
Connor Donaldson netted 30 points for the Trojans while Zach Cooper and RJ Magar had 19 each.
The Pirates next play at Olympic on Saturday at 4 p.m. Olympic is struggling at 0-4 in conference and 1-12 overall.

Everett 79, Peninsula 71
EVERETT — The Trojans broke up a tie for third place with the NWAACC victory Wednesday night.
Everett is alone in third place at 3-1 while the Pirates fell to a tie for fourth at 2-2 with Skagit Valley.
Peninsula is 7-7 overall while Everett is 9-7.
“This was a poor defensive effort for the Pirates,” Peninsula coach Alison Crumb said.
“We took a huge step forward last Saturday and potentially one step backwards if we don’t find ways to be more consistent and play better defense on the road.”
Leading the Pirates was Taylor Larson with 22 points while Jasmine Yarde also chipped in 30 points with 12 rebounds and six assists.
Jesse Ellis had 20 points as well.
“Everett played a great game and we look forward to a rematch at home in the next month or so,” Crumb said.
Peninsula next will play at Olympic (0-4, 0-14) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
