SEQUIM — Sid Krumpe and Pat Harrop-Schumacher fought their way to the top of the scorecards for 2004.
Both of these outstanding Olympic Peninsula golfers routinely play at Dungeness Golf Course and have enjoyed many successes over the years.
Krumpe is the 2004 Dungeness Men’s Club champion while Harrop-Schumacher is eyeing fame and fortune in the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championships.
Harrop-Schumacher recently entered the sectional qualifying round for the 2004 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur held at Sand Point Country Club in Seattle, where her score of 83 won her the top qualifying spot for the finals.
She will be preparing intensely for her chance in the 43rd USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship Oct. 8-19 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
In the national event, only 132 senior players are allowed to enter and all must have qualified through regional tournaments.
Qualifying for the Senior National Finals is thrilling, according to Harrop-Schumacher, who is no stranger to winning or competing at a national level.
She has qualified 12 times for USGA National Public Links tournaments but has yet to win the national championship.
In the 18 years she and her husband, J.C., have been members at Dungeness, she has won many club and area tournaments and has been a strong proponent of women’s golf.
