MILLVILLE, N.J. — The North Olympic 16-U fastpitch team’s quest for a title remained intact after Thursday’s 4-0 victory over Revere, Mass., in a loser-out game at the Babe Ruth Softball 16 & Under World Series.
North Olympic secured itself at least fourth place — matching the best finish by a Peninsula team at the World Series in 2001 and ’02 — with the victory.
Right-hander Sonja Elofson was back to her precise self on the mound, scattering six hits and one walk with five strikeouts over seven innings for the complete game win — her second in as many days.
“She’s just making them put the ball in play,” head coach Warren Stevens said.
“She’s been moving the ball pretty well.”
The win sets up another loser-out game for North Olympic, this time against offensive powerhouse Lodi, Calif., at 2 p.m. today (Friday).
“They hit the ball well and make you play defense,” Stevens said of Lodi.
“You’re going to have to match that [to win].”
“If we play our best game we can play with them. We’re going to have to score.”
If North Olympic wins, it will secure another game on Friday, a third place finish at the very least and keep its championship hopes alive.
