Grinnell competes at world event

MARIBOR, Slovenia — Port Angeles resident Jaiden Grinnell recently traveled halfway across the world to participate in the 2009 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships in Slovenia.

The 17-year-old finished in 29th place out of the 45 competitors in the women’s international skeet event after hitting 62 of 75 targets.

International Skeet is an Olympic Sport in which the competitor uses a shotgun to break clay targets that cross a field of eight shooting stations placed in a semi-circle.

Grinnell has excelled at the sport for several years, training four to five days a week with 1984 gold medalist and three-time world champion Matt Dryke of Sequim at Sunnydell Shooting Grounds.

Last fall she was one of three USA skeet shooters to qualify for the world championships.

She was the lone junior to qualify.
