SPORTS: North Kitsap beats Port Angeles-Sequim in lacrosse; prep golf reports

POULSBO — The Port Angeles-Sequim boys high school lacrosse team is still looking for its first victory of the season after dropping a game Friday.

Matt Dottenweich and Kory Qvigstad each scored three goals as North Kitsap rolled to a 12-1 win over Port Angeles-Sequim at North Kitsap High School.

The win elevated North Kitsap to its second win of the spring while Port Angeles-Sequim dropped its third straight.

With a stingy defense, North Kitsap put up a goal in the first, six in the second and two in the third without giving up a score to take a 9-0 lead into the final quarter.

Sawyer Chapman finally found the net for North Kitsap in the fourth, while North Kitsap added another three to round-out the scoring.

Dottenweich and Qvigstad combined for 17 ground balls and Kellson Arthurs recorded 25 on the night.

Port Angeles-Sequim (0-3-0) next faces Burlington-Edison (1-4-0) on April 12 in a 5 p.m. start at Burlington-Edison High School in Burlington.

North Kitsap (2-3-0) next faces Peninsula-Gig Harbor (4-1-0) on April 9 in a 7:30 p.m. start at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor.

Port Angeles 423, Olympic 449

BREMERTON — Medalist Joe Barnes sparked the Roughriders to the Olympic League victory by taking medalist honors with 75 in the first 18-hole match of the year.

Barnes shot 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back, beating runner-up Trent Ferris of Olympic by three shots.

Highly regarded Ferris finished with 38-40 — 78.

The Riders’ Garrett Payton took third with 79 while teammates Alex Atwell and Austin Underwood were fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 81 and 89.

Alex Brown and Micah Needham shot 101 each for the Riders.

Girls Golf

Port Angeles 315, Olympic, inc.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders’ Dana Fox was match medalist with a score of 47 in nine holes at Rolling Hills Golf Course on Thursday.

The Trojans had only four players for the match and needed five for a team score.

Tying for fourth place for Port Angeles were Kylee Jeffers, Chloe Brown and Taylor Rutz, all with 66.

Maddie Boe and Greta Gieseke each had 70 for the Riders.

Port Angeles next plays at Peninsula Golf Club against Bremerton on

April 10.
