FORKS — The Class 1B varsity Neah Bay Red Devils made quick work of defeating the 1A Forks JV squad 54-24 in boys basketball nonleague action Tuesday night.
Robert Moss and Drexler Doherty swished the nets for 20 points each for Neah Bay (3-2).
Ahead 28-14 at halftime, the Red Devils came out and played very relaxed after the break, Neah Bay coach Michael Lawrence said.
“We become much more consistent with the ball when we relax,” he said.
Next up, Neah Bay will play in the Tulalip Tournament, which begins Dec. 28.
“We will get a really good idea of where we stand as a team at that tournament,” Lawrence said.

Puyallup 81, Port Angeles 52
PUYALLUP — The Roughriders (3-2, 4-4) could only run with the 4A Vikings for so long on Monday night.
The SPSL South Division contenders outscored Port Angeles 25-0 between the end of the second and beginning of the third quarters to capture the nonleague affair.
Puyallup’s drive-and-kick attack sank 17-of-41 3-point attempts and 24-of-27 free throws in the win, and also came up with 23 offensive rebounds during a commanding second half performance.
“They were too quick to guard man-to-man, so we went to a zone,” Port Angeles coach Wes Armstrong said.
“Our zone worked great in the first half, and then we just had a hard time hitting the boards. That just killed us . . . plus having 19 turnovers in the second half, too.”
Colin Wheeler was the Riders’ leading scorer with 10 points. Reserve forward Troy Martin had six rebounds, but may be lost for the season after severely injuring his hand during the game.
Port Angeles next hosts Sonoma Valley, Calif., on Dec. 30.

Girls Basketball Mount Tahoma 65, Port Angeles 60
TACOMA — The Class 3A Roughriders stayed right with 4A Mount Tahoma late before falling in the final minute.
“It was a good game,” Port Angeles coach Mike Knowles said.
The Riders were down by only one point with 1:07 left.
“We were right there, right there,” Knowles said.
Port Angeles, a perfect 5-0 in the Olympic League, is 5-2 overall.
Jessica Madison led the Riders with 21 points while three other teammates scored in double figures.
Skylar Jones sank 11 while Allison Knowles and Alise Reid added 10 each.
The Riders also were balanced on the boards with Reid and Skylar Jones pulling down nine apiece while Madison and Taylyn Jeffers grabbed eight each.
Mount Tahoma gave the Riders good experience.
“They pressed us the whole game,” Knowles said. “They had a 6-6 post player we had to defend, and they were fast.
“We took some great shots in the game. I’m proud of the kids.”
The Riders next host Bainbridge on Dec. 29.

QUILCENE — The Class 2B Rangers started hot but ran out of steam against the 2A Eagles in Monday night’s nonleague game.
Kacey Ingalls netted 14 points to lead Quilcene, which was unable to hold on to an early 11-5 lead against the Olympic League squad.
Quilcene next hosts Jefferson County rival Chimacum on Dec. 29.

Wrestling Forks at Mt. Baker
DEMING — Nine wrestlers placed for the Spartans at the 10-team Mount Baker Tournament on Tuesday.
Forks High School claimed seventh place with no individual champions.
The Spartans had one runner-up and three third places at the event.
Forks placed two at 112 pounds with Tyler Cortani capturing second and teammate Cutter Grahn taking third.
Also earning third place were Jose Bocanegra at 171 and Tanner House at 285.
Taking fifth were Dayne House at 125 and Nick Atkins at 145.
Sixth-place finishers were Chris Powell at 140, Joey Salazar at 285 and Shane Whiteeagle at 152.
“There were some good matches for us,” Forks coach Bob Wheeler said.
The Spartans will get back in action Monday at the Vashon Island Tournament.
