SPORTS: Neah Bay stomps Lopez Island in boys basketball

NEAH BAY — Drexler Doherty scorched the nets for 37 points to spark Neah Bay over Lopez Island in boys basketball nonleague action Saturday night.

Drexler made 6-of-17 shots from beyond the 3-point line as the Red Devils buried Lopez 76-55.

Neah Bay outscored Lopez in the second and fourth quarters to romp to its 13th victory of the season.

The teams tied 9-9 after one period but the Red Devils surged to a 36-24 halftime lead and never looked back.

Neah Bay maintained its 12-point lead at 54-42 at the end of the third quarter.

The Red Devils cruised the rest of the way, outscoring Lopez 22-13 in the final period.

Drexler had seven steals and four assists to go along with his game-high 37 points while teammae Zeke Greene swished in 13 points, dished out four assists and had three steals.

Michael Dulik and Eli Monette led on the boards with seven rebounds each while Izaak Manuel had six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Keldon Jardine led Lopez with 18 points, making 5-of-7 shots from the 3-point line.

Derekk Buffum had 17 points for Lopez while teammate Nate Drahn added 10.

The Red Devils, now 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the North Olympic League, next plays at archrival Clallam Bay on Friday night.

Auburn Adventist 66, Quilcene 40

AUBURN — The Rangers had a tough time against powerhouse Auburn Adventist in a Sea-Tac League game Saturday night.

“They put on a clinic for us,” Quilcene coach Mark Thompson said.

Auburn’s Andrew Wolf led everybody with 34 points while Brandon Bancroft scored a team-high 20 points for Quilcene.

The Rangers next play at Muckleshoot on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
