PORT ANGELES — Longtime Port Angeles High School boys basketball coach Lee Sinnes will be inducted into the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on July 26.
“This is a pretty honored and a humbling experience,” he said.
Sinnes, an all-state center for Port Angeles in 1966, has been a head coach at his alma mater for 24 years and an assistant for another 10 years.
He also had coaching stints at Yelm and Mark Morris.
Sinnes also has been helping out as an assistant for the girls basketball program the past three years.
The 1966 Port Angeles graduate has coached the Roughriders to four league titles, a West Central District championship and several trips to state.
“As I look at the prior inductees to the Hall of Fame, I counted 50 coaches I have either coached or played against,” Sinnes said.
The lifelong Roughrider officially is retired from coaching but he still teaches at Port Angeles High School as the physical education chairman. He teaches health and weight training.
No stranger to a Hall of Fame, Sinnes was inducted to the Pacific Lutheran University Hall as a player in 2002.
The former PLU standout currently is ranked 13th on the all-time scoring list with 1,307 points.
“I was inducted to the PLU Hall after a short time as a player, but I have been involved with coaching for over 30 years,” Sinnes said.
“I told some of my colleagues that if you stick around long enough, they will find you.”
Sinnes will be inducted to the coaching Hall of Fame with three others at the Tacoma Elks Pavillion at Allenmore Golf Course.
The banquet begins with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and induction ceremony at 6 p.m.
Sinnes will be introduced at the banquet by Hall inductee and 1964 Port Angeles graduate Dave Denny.

Others being inducted with Sinnes are head coaches Tim Cummings (Idaho and Auburn), and assistants Monte Walton (Sehome and Ferndale) and Mark Williams (Fife, Lincoln and Curtis).
Two others will be inducted to the 2012 Hall at Kennewick Red Lion Inn on July 24. The Kennewick banquet will fete head coach Don Schumacher (Kamiakin) and assistant Pat Clark (Gonzaga Prep, North Central and Mead).
