FORKS — Lake Quinault kept the Forks baseball team winless on the year with a 6-4 nonleague victory Friday.
Both teams were even in the game in many respects as they had two errors each, and the Spartans (0-3) rapped out four hits to Quinault’s three.
But Quinault ended up with the scoring advantage, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning and increasing it to 4-0 in the third.
Forks came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 4-2 contest.
Quinault scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings while Forks concluded scoring with two runs in the fifth.
Michael Dean pitched the first three innings for the Spartans, taking the loss.
Cameron Leons smacked a double in the game for the Spartans.
Forks will try to get into the win column Monday in a SWL-Evergreen Division doubleheader at home against Rochester.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved forward because rainy weather was expected to be back in Forks by Tuesday.
Chimacum remains perfect on year
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys, the defending Class 1A state champions, keep playing like they don’t want to give up that crown.
Chimacum ripped Life Christian 21-4 in five innings Thursday, then turned around and smacked Vashon Island 12-1 on Friday in Nisqually League games.
Quinn Eldridge was the winning pitcher against Life Christian while Landon Cray picked up the victory against Vashon.
Austin McConnell and Cray carried the big bats against Life Christian as McConnell went a perfect 4 for 4 at bat with four RBIs and four runs scored and Cray smacked a home run out of the park, collected two hits, scoring four runs and knocking in three runs.
Against Vashon, Cray went 3 for 4 with four stolen bases, three runs and two RBIs.
Mike Norberg went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Port Townsend 1, North Mason 0
BELFAIR — Kyle Kelly carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning and won a pitching duel against J. Young in nonleague action Friday in a battle of Olympic League rivals.
A single up the middle broke the no-hit bid by Kelly.
That was the only hit allowed by Kelly.
Port Townsend scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning when Kelly led off with a double into the right-center gap.
He was moved to third on a Dillon Ralls single, and then scored on a Sean Dwyer RBI-ground ball.

PORT ANGELES — Connor Gouge and Kevin Herzog both went 3 for 3 for the Roughriders (3-2) in the nonleague game Friday.
Gouge hit a double, scored two runs and had two RBIs with a stolen base, while Herzog scored two runs and had an RBI and stolen base.
Easton Napiontek also had a good hitting day, going 2 for 3, scoring three runs while earning two stolen bases and knocking a run in.
Michael Konopaski started the game on the mound, going four innings, giving up just one earned run while scattering four hits.
He struck out four and walked two.

SEQUIM — It almost was a show of perfection as Nick Johnston and Jake Hudson combined on a three-hitter to spark the Wolves to the nonleague shutout Friday.
Sequim had no errors in the game to back up the two pitchers with standout defense.
“Our pitching and defense were fantastic,” Sequim coach Dave Ditlefsen said.
Pitchers were superb
Johnston gave up two hits while striking out three with no walks in five innings while Hudson followed with one hit, no walks and two strikeouts in two innings for the save.
Karsten Wake, who went 1 for 2 in the game, had the go-ahead single in the fifth inning, scoring Brett Wright after Wright got on with a walk and stolen base.
