PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Peninsula’s first marathon is set to start in two days.
The first-ever North Olympic Discovery Marathon, an official 26.2-miles long, starts at 9 a.m. Sunday at Carrie Blake Park in east Sequim. At the same time a half-marathon race will start at City Pier in Port Angeles.
Both races finish at the City Pier. Race organizer Larry Little, who was race director for Port Townsend’s Rhody Runs for many years, is expecting the first marathon runner to cross the finish line in about 2½ hours.
Music and other activities will be taking place in the City Pier and Hollywood Beach area.
The marathon course mainly runs along the Olympic Discovery Trail, but leaves the trail in a couple of places.
