SPORTS: Host Clackamas edges Wilder Baseball; state softball update

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — Wilder Baseball opened the Diamond Classic with a loss to host Clackamas.

Clackamas, now 19-7-1 on the summer, beat Wilder 6-3.

Wilder fell to 16-5, its second loss in a row after winning 15 consecutive games.

“We played another good team as a bunch of individuals,” Wilder coach Chad Wagner said.

“Everything is fine when you are winning, but the true test of a team is when you lose a couple games.

“We have to regroup and come together to overcome these set of loses.”

Clackamas had five hits and one error while Wilder outhit the Oregon team with seven hits, and also had just one mistake.

Kyle Kelly threw all seven innings and received the loss on the mound.

“He really didn’t pitch that bad,” Wagner said.

“One bloop hit over third, and one line drive off a pitch that was over the kid’s head scored four of their runs.”

Catcher Marcus Konopaski was 1 of 1 with two walks while Kelly and Brian DeFrang was 2 for 3 each and Talon Cameron was 1 for 3.
