FORKS — The Class 2A Forks High School girls basketball team won 40-30 over 3A Sequim in nonleague play on Tuesday.
Forks was led by Colleen Silcox, who had 20 points.
“It was a defensive game, it was a very aggressive game, probably a little bit sloppy,”‘ said first-year Forks coach Todd Fraker.
Silcox also led the Spartans with 17 rebounds and three assists.
“Silcox is having a great year so far, she was a standout tonight,” said Fraker.
Alanna O’Hara had nine points for Sequim and Valerye Huff and Hana Yamamoto each scored seven.
The Spartans were 8-for-14 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded Sequim 45-39.
Forks (2-0 overall) kicks off its Southwest Washington League schedule on Friday at Elma.
Neah Bay 52, Summit 35
SEATTLE — The Red Devils got 15 points from Hazel Denny as they won their season opener on Tuesday.
The Invaders were led by Pettie Chappelle, who scored 11 points.
Michelle Thompson also had 15 points for Neah Bay.
With a 26-20 lead at the half, the Red Devils outscored the Invaders 17-3 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Nine different girls scored for Neah Bay.
Clallam Bay 43, Port Angeles C 26
CLALLAM BAY — The Bruins started out their season with a nonleague win on Tuesday night.
Suzanna Goplen-Dean led Clallam Bay with 15 points and Alice Yancy scored 11.
Port Angeles was led by Jessica Haguewood, who had seven points.
Yancy also had 14 rebounds and Katelyn Wright chipped in four assists for the Class B Bruins.
Chimacum 44, Quilcene 38
CHIMACUM — Stephanie Friddrich sank 12 points to lead a balanced Cowboys attack in a nonleague game with rival Rangers.
Chantel Arey added 10 points for the Cowboys, who led 18-14 at halftime.
Erin Burlingame led Quilcene with 18 points while Kara Weed added 13.
Arey and Katie Gale led Chimacum on the boards with 10 rebounds each while Michelle Glynn brought down nine.
Chimacum, now 2-0 overall, next plays Crescent on Friday.
Wrestling Port Angles 57, Mount Tahoma 21
PORT ANGELES — Roughrider Cory Looney won his fifth straight match and fourth by fall, when he pinned David Tracy at 3 minutes, 2 seconds in the 275-pound weight class on Tuesday.
Looney is undefeated this season.
Port Angeles won 10 matches on Tuesday, six by pin.
Cliff Wooldridge (145), Adam Macomber (152), Lucas Wendeborne (160), Mark Van Rosen (171) and Kelly Pruss (189) all won by fall for the Riders.
Greger Tuttle (125) won a 9-3 decision for Port Angeles and Angela Toll (103), Nick Haffner (140) and Stevie Valdez (215) all won by forfeit.
Boys Basketball Port Townsend 45, King’s West 38
PORT TOWNSEND — Aaron Kenna led the Redskins with 17 points on Tuesday.
Chad Holbrook had 11 for Port Townsend (1-2 overall).
“They played hard and stayed with the game plan to spread the floor,” said Port Townsend coach Russ Hickman.
Jeremiah Fountain had seven points for the Redskins.
Chimacum 82, Quilcene 52
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys overcame the Rangers thanks to a 26-7 fourth quarter.
Steven Gray scored 29 and Arlo Evasick poured in 20 points for Chimacum (1-1).
“We’re awfully young,” said Chimacum coach Bob Thompson, who played five freshmen in the game.
Grant Jones scored 11 for the Cowboys.
Neah Bay 82, Summit 52
SEATTLE — The Red Devils hammered the Invaders in their season opener on Tuesday behind Joe Chartraw’s triple double.
Chartraw had 19 points, 12 boards and 10 assists.
Robbie Arnold led Neah Bay with 23 points and Tim Green chipped in with 15.
Arnold also had 11 rebounds for the Red Devils.
Boys Swimming Sequim-Olympic Central Kitsap
SILVERDALE — The Wolves were able to beat Olympic 110-66 but fell 103-82 to Central Kitsap.
Phillip Riolo was the winner of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 7.04 seconds and Hans Hendrickson won the 100 breast (1:15.61) while Logan Soule won the 1-meter diving competition for Sequim with a score of 167.15.
Jake Brantley also won for Sequim in the 500 freestyle (5:56.72).
