FORKS — Neah Bay state-class sprinter Titus Pascua captured three events while the Forks girls and the Crescent boys won the team titles at the five-team Forks Lions Invitational track and field meet Saturday.
The Forks girls claimed seven individual events while amassing 81 points while Klahowya of Silverdale was runner-up with 67.5, followed by Crescent with 45.5, Clallam Bay with 29 and Neah Bay with 19.
The Spartans had three girls double winners.
Sprinter Cassy Schroeder won the 100 meters in 14.30 seconds and the 200 in 30.42 while distance runner Kari Larson captured the 1600 in 5:57.19 and the 800 in 2:35.84.
Kari Larson just beat our her sister, Kristen Larson, in the 1600. Kristen, who won the 3200 in 13:38.95, was runner-up in the 1600 in 6:19.31.
In addition, Sydney Christenson of Forks won the shot put with a heave of 31 feet, 11 inches, and she took the discus with a throw of 97-11, winning by more than 14 feet.
The Spartans swept the discus with Theresa Soha second at 83-01 and Mercedes Flores third at 78-05.
On Thursday, the Forks girls captured second place at the five-team Rainier Invitational.
“The girls have been doing really well,” Forks coach Pam Gale said.
“Things are looking up.”
Winck a double winner
Neah Bay’s Courtney Winck also was a double winner as she captured the long jump with a distance of 14 feet even and the triple jump with a length of 27-07.0.
The Crescent girls had two winners as Kellie Belford claimed the 300-meter hurdles title in 55.14 seconds and Devanie Christie took the javelin throw with a distance of 89 feet even.
Crescent’s girls also won two relay events, the 4×100 and the 4×200.
“Our girls continued their relay winning ways, and Devanie Christie had another javelin win for us,” Crescent coach Darrell Yount said.
The Logger girls took the 4×100 relay in 56.27 seconds with Lynn Grover, Christie, Belford and Jandi Frantz at anchor.
They also won the 4×200 in 1:59.69 with the same four runners but in different legs: Christie, Grover, Frantz and Belford at anchor.
Boys competition
Pascua was the only triple winner of the event as he took the 100 dash in 12.01 seconds, the 200 in 24.35 and the long jump with a distance of 18-07.50.
The Logger boys, however, dominated the event by a score of 72, followed by Neah Bay with 54, Klahowya with 47, Clallam Bay with 42 and Forks with 31.
Crescent won despite having four of its best athletes taking the day off because of prior commitments.
Joel Williams, Kyle Hutto, Eric Larson and Mike Zapien did not compete.
“I was so pleased to see some of our younger athletes step to the bar and compete bravely to grab important team points to keep us in the team race,” Yount said.
Williams leads Class 1B state with a time of 43.24 seconds in the 300 hurdles while the Loggers’ 4×400 relay team has the best time in state at 3:44.48.
Williams and Matt Waldrip combine to give the Loggers the top 1-2 punch in state in both hurdles events.
Waldrip, who won both hurdles events Saturday, has the best 110 hurdles time in state at 17.04 and is in second right behind Williams in the 300 hurdles by ten-tenths of a second.
On Saturday, Waldrip won the 110 hurdles in 17.78 and the 300 hurdles in 47.28. Teammate Quinntin March was second behind Waldrip in both races.
The Crescent boys won four individual events.
Also winning for the Loggers were Derek Findley in javelin with a distance of 145-02 and Donovan Christie in high jump with a leap of 5-08.
“Derek Findley really stepped up to take another javelin crown to pair with his win from the Sequim meet last Wednesday,” Yount said.
“Just a stellar effort on the part of our boys. I’m so very proud of all our kids.”
Also in boys competition, Clallam Bay won two events and the 4×400 relay while Forks took two events and Neah Bay won the 4×100 relay to go along with Pascua’s three victories.
For the Bruins, Jesse Wonderly won the 400 sprint in 56.62 seconds while Ryan Willis took the triple jump with a distance of 35-08.
In addition, the Clallam Bay 4×400 won with a season best time of 3:55.28 with Wonderly, Jeremy Rock, Justin Welever and Willis.
Neah Bay’s boys 4×100 relay team won in 47.86 with Pascua, Harold Tyler, Joey Monje and Elisha Winck.
The Forks boys won two events at their own meet as Eugene Haynes claimed the shot put title with a ehave of 38-02 and Justin Graham beat out Haynes for first in discus with a throw of 96-04.
Haynes was close behind in discus with a distance of 94-03.

La Conner meet
LA CONNER — The Loggers flexed their track and field muscles at the La Conner Invitational on Friday in a five-way meet.
Crescent’s boys captured second place while the girls claimed third in a meet that featured only two 1B schools Crescent and Christian Faith.
The other teams were 2B and 1A.
Host La Conner took the boys meet tiwh 122 points with the Loggers next at 77, followed by Concrete 67, Christian Faith 34 and Friday Harbor 33.
La Conner also won the girls meet, with 110 points, followed by Concrete 96, Crescent 67, Friday Harbor 30 and Christian Faith 17.
Leading the way for the boys were Joel Williams and Matt Waldrip, state-ranked hurdlers.
Waldrip won the 110 hurdles with Williams leading a 1-2 seep of the 300 hurdles.
Waldrip leads the state in the 110 while Williams is ranked fourth at 18.48.
Williams (43.24) is the top 300 hurdler in state while Waldrip (43.34) is right behind in second.
Williams and Waldrip combined with Donovan Christie and Beau Bamer to put up a state-leading time in the 4×400 realy in 3:44.49.
Christie grabbed a second place in high jump, scaling a 1B state-leading 5-10.
The Crescent girls were led by the spring combo of Kellie Belford, Jandi Frantz, Devanie Christie and Lynn Grover as they put up two great times, in the 4×100 relay in 56.04, state-ranked No 3, and in the 4×200 relay in 1:59.30, state-ranked No. 4.
Belford also ran 53.54 in the 400 to take second on the day, which is state-ranked No. 5.
Devanie Christie, meanwhile, grabbed a big javelin win on the day by throwing 103-7, which is fourth-best in state.
