SPORTS: Fall sports set to start at Port Angeles High School

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School officials are encouraging students to prepare now for participation in fall sports.

Activity participation documents are available online at www.portangelesschools.org/pahs/athletics-registration.html.

Once the necessary forms are completed, students should return their Athletic Clearance Form, Preparticipation Physical Exam Form and Physical Examination Form to Athletic Secretary Janis Bane at the high school’s main office beginning Monday.

Students should call 360-565-1809 if they have any questions or need assistance with athletics registration.

Football practice begins Wednesday. All other sports, including cross country, girls soccer, girls swimming, boys tennis and volleyball, begin Aug. 23.

Following is the first day and/or turnout time and location for each sport:

• Volleyball: Aug. 23 — 8 a.m. -11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. in the high school auxiliary gym — the first day of volleyball tryouts.

Tryouts will be two times a day (same times as above), Monday through Thursday; and 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Aug. 27.

• Cross country: Aug. 23 — meet at Morse Creek and Discovery Trail — 8 a.m.-10 a.m.; end at Crab House restaurant.

August 24- Aug. 26 — meet at Room 605, 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

August 27 — meet at Room 605, 3 p.m.-5 p.m.

• Football: Monday — Paperwork in to Janis Bane. Lifting and run testing from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Tuesday — 9 a.m. meeting outside locker room to get gear. Paperwork must be turned in to get gear.

Wednesday — Practice starts at 7 a.m. and goes to noon.

Freshmen need to be at all of these activities.

• Girls soccer: Bring running shoes and cleats to the first week of practices:

August 23 — 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Civic Field.

The morning session is check-in and conditioning/fitness testing; regular practice in the afternoon.

August 24 — 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m., and 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Civic Field. The morning session will be testing for soccer skills; regular practice in the afternoon.

August 25 — The morning session is at the high school track from 10-11; afternoon session, 3:30-6, is at Civic Field.

August 26 — 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Civic Field.

August 27 — 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Civic Field.

August 28 — 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m., parent meeting and program scrimmage at Civic Field. Following practice will be a fundraising car wash at AutoZone.

• Girls swimming: August 23 — 2 p.m. at William Shore Memorial Pool.

• Boys tennis: For the first week, practice will be 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the high school tennis courts.
