SEQUIM — The Skagit Valley Lightning dealt the Olympic Peninsula Eagles (0-2) their second consecutive loss on Saturday night, a 24-0 defeat at Sequim High School.
The Skagit Valley Lightning rolled into town and stifled the Eagle offense, allowing just five first downs for the home team and limiting the Eagle offense to 138 total yards.
“You can’t pin-point one thing,” Eagles coach Dick Suess said of the outcome of Saturday’s game.
The Eagle’s — members of the semipro Pacific Northwest Football Conference — were whistled seven times in the first half for 85 yards in penalties and 105 yards for the game.
Carl Horn carried the ball 28 times for 80 yards on the ground while Don Purser and Kenny Hall combined for 58 yards passing for the Eagles.
“What can you do? Nobody plays well in the rain,” Hall said.
Purser was 2-for-8 with one interception for 43 yards while Hall was 4-for-13 for 15 yards and one interception.
The Eagles wound up turning the ball over four times.
“They weren’t four touchdowns better than us, but my hat is off to them,” Suess said.
Skagit Valley wide-receiver Tyler Dubuque found the end-zone twice while tight-end Tyler Nibarger scored another.
The final Lightning score came on an recovered fumble in the Eagle end-zone.
“We have six games left to snap back,” Suess said.
