CHIMACUM — The Crescent High School girls basketball team seems to have the Chimacum junior varsity’s number.
The Class 1B varsity Loggers earned just their third victory of the year, second over the young 1A Cowboys, by a 37-35 score in a nonleague game Monday night.
The first time around Crescent ripped Chimacum 58-33 on Jan. 25.
This time, the Loggers ran out to a 21-11 halftime lead and held on against a Chimacum rally in the second half.
The Cowboys outscored the Loggers 24-16 in the final two periods but just missed sending the game into overtime.
Kylie Mitts sparked a balanced Crescent attack with 13 points while Sarah Moore sank seven and Cayla Cariker made six.
Freshman forward Bridgett Galle, meanwhile, earned a team-high nine points for the Cowboys.
Mallori Cossell and Hailee Johnson was right behind with eight each.
“It must have been a fun game to watch for everyone but me,” Crescent coach Terry Kahler said about how close the game was.
A couple of Crescent players weren’t feeling well, which helped contribute to the lower point total than the Loggers had last week against Chimacum.
The Loggers conclude their season Friday night at Clallam Bay in a North Olympic League game.

CLALLAM BAY 53, LAKE QUINAULT 41
LAKE QUINAULT — Three players scored in double figures as the Bruins breezed to the nonleague victory Monday night.
Clallam Bay (2-3 in North Olympic League, 11-4 overall) concludes the regular season at home against Crescent on Friday night.
The Bruins, the No. 2 seed in the NOL, open Tri-district play at Mountlake Terrace on Feb. 12 against a No. 1 seed, probably North Sound.
In the meantime, the Bruins stormed to a 33-22 lead over Lake Quinault by intermission Monday and held on for the win.
Clallam Bay, playing four games in five days, ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and scored just four points.
But by then the damage had been done as the Bruins went into the final period ahead 49-33.
Sarah Reeves led Clallam Bay with 14 points while Courtney Willis sank 12 and Jessica Angulo added 11.
Angulo also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for a double-double and had three assists while Reeves had a monster game with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.
“Sarah Reeves had a good game,” coach Kelly Gregory said.
Willis just missed a double-double with eight rebounds while Allesha Welever had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

District Qualifying
RENTON — Three Sequim High School divers on the boys swimming team qualified for the district championships last weekend at Hazen High School.
Ezra Perkins, Austin Clement and Connor Christianson all qualified for the West Central District meet.
Perkins captured sixth place with 247.10 points in 11 dives while Clement took ninth place with 230.70 points and Christianson claimed 10th with 227.00.
The district competition is set for Feb. 12-13 at Hazen High School.
Sequim’s Zachary Springer just missed the cut with an 11th place finish with 210.70 points.
The entire Sequim diving team of eight athletes will be performing dive at the Olympic League meet at William Shore Memorial Pool Port Angeles on Thursday.
Springer and Cameron Harrison will have their final chance to qualify for the district meet, Sequim diving coach Susan Craig said.
“All the boys performed their dives very consistently and with quite a bit of flair [at Hazen last weekend], and I hope they will do even better Thursday at the Port Angeles pool,” Craig said.
GYMNASTICS
Port Angeles High School
LACEY — The Roughriders captured third place with a score of 138.2 at the Black Hills Gymnastics Club on Saturday. The meet was hosted by North Thurston School District.
Five teams were competing, including North Thurston, Capital, Olympia, Kingston and Port Angeles.
Jackie Johnson and Katlyn Noard of Port Angeles competed all-around for the first time this year.
“They both did really well,” coach Melanie Hyatt said.
On vault from Port Angeles, Haley Love placed eighth with an 8.2, Jayden Hoover placed sixth with an 8.35, and Allison Hodgin placed fifth with a. 8.4
On balance beam, Cecily Schwagler placed sixth with a 7.6
On uneven bars, Hoover placed eighth with a 5.8, Hodgin placed fifth with a 6.6 and Schwagler placed fourth with a 6.9.
On floor, Hoover took ninth with a 7.0 and Hodgin claimed sixth with a 7.6.
For all-around, Schwagler took eighth with a 29.4 and Hodgin placed seventh with a 29.8.
“The meet went well and all of the girls did a good job staying focused with so many girls competing against them,” Hyatt said.
