SPORTS: Crescent takes 3-0 sweep in volleyball; other prep results

TACOMA — The Crescent volleyball team came away with a 3-0 sweep in a nonleague road match against Mount Rainier Lutheran on Wednesday.

The Loggers won 26-24, 25-9, 25-18.

“We were slow starting,” Crescent coach Alex Baker said. “But once we got our feet wet, we were dominant.”

Sarah Moore stood out for Crescent, serving a perfect 15-for-15 with three aces and two kills.

Teammate Mikela Williams hit 13-of-16 serves and had six aces and seven kills.

“We played to our true potential,” coach Baker said. “This was a good win against a good team.”

Crescent will take on former North Olympic League rival Quilcene at home on Friday in another non-league match.

ORTING 3, CHIMACUM 1

ORTING — The Cowboys lost their second Nisqually League match in a row after falling 25-8, 25-14, 26-28, 25-11 to the Cardinals on Wednesday.

“We did put up a little bit of a fight,” Chimacum (0-2 in league, 3-2 overall) coach Sally Dankert said after the loss.

“That gives us two days to readjust our offense and our hitting. That’s where we are lacking at the moment.”
