NEAH BAY — The community celebration for Neah Bay High School’s first football championship is scheduled for Monday night.
The Makah community celebration and dinner is set for the Makah Tribal Center gymnasium in the center of town at 5:30 p.m.
A huge Thanksgiving Day-style dinner will be put on by football parents and members of the Makah community.
The football team has missed out on a true Thanksgiving dinner the past couple of years while competing in the state semifinals.
Team members have requested a Thanksgiving dinner for their community celebration.
The event, which is open to the public, will include speakers, tribal songs and team awards.
The Red Devils, losing in state semifinals in 2009 and 2010, won it all this year when they beat Almira Coulee Hartline 36-28 on Dec. 2 in the Tacoma Dome.
Neah Bay set the table to win it all when it defeated nemesis and defending state champion Lummi 58-40 in the quarterfinals Nov. 18.
That was the first time the Red Devils had beaten the Blackhawks in the past seven tries.
