Sports: Clallam Bay High in state football semis on Saturday

CLALLAM BAY — The Clallam Bay High School football team takes on Lacrosse-Washtucna at 1 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals of the Class B-8 state playoffs.

The eight-man football game will take place at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.

Clallam Bay (9-0) is ranked second in the state while Lacrosse-Washtucna (10-0) is the state’s top-ranked B-8 team.

Lacrosse-Washtucna is the two-time defending state B-8 champion and is riding a 33-game winning streak that dates to the first game of the 2002 season.

Junior running back Kevin Dainty was named the B-8 state player of the year last season and maneuvers behind an offensive line anchored by three linemen weighing between 210 and 265 pounds.

“They’re pretty solid all the way around,” said Clallam Bay head coach Andy Ritter, who scouted the team during its 52-8 win over Sprague-Harrington in the quarterfinals last Friday.

“One advantage we might have,” Ritter said, “is we have a lot of team defensive speed. I think maybe more than they do.

“That’s what I’m hoping anyway.”

The Bruins beat Lummi 46-12 in their quarterfinal game, played last Saturday.
