CHIMACUM — The accolades continue to pile up for Chimacum junior Landon Cray.
The Cowboys baseball standout, a three-time Nisqually League MVP, was named the Class 1A/2B/1B player of the year by the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association.
Cray was given the honor after he helped guide the Cowboys to their second 1A state title in five seasons this May.
He hit for a .575 batting average his junior season, compiling 11 doubles, four triples and a school-record nine homers while scoring 53 runs in 26 games.
The left-hander was just as dominant on the mound, registering a 1.16 earned run average with 107 strikeouts and 18 walks in 54 1/3 innings.
In one game this season, he struck out 20 of 21 batters faced on the way to a complete game no-hitter.
“This year he was remarkable on the mound,” Chimacum coach Jim Dunn said about Cray, also named the Peninsula Daily News prep baseball player of the year. “His arm was just unreal.”
Cray was not alone on the all-state team, either.
Teammate Austin McConnell, a junior catcher, was a second-team selection for Class 1A/2B/1B.
No other North Olympic Peninsula players received all-state recognition.
