TACOMA — The Chimacum volleyball team opened its season with a loss to tough Nisqually League foe Charles Wright Academy.
The Tarriers won 25-19, 27-15, 25-20.
“I’m pleased with how the girls played, especially for our first match [of the season] against Charles Wright, who has some really hard hitters,” Cowboys coach Sally Dankert said.
Megan Dukek had three aces, 11 assists and one kill for Chimacum.
Lauren Thacker had two blocks, two aces and eight kills; Olivia Baird had two kills; Audrey Thacker had a pair of blocks; Kiersten Snyder had one kill; and Alyssa Hamilton had two aces.
“The girls played hard and showed strength as a team the entire night,” Dankert said.
“It’s difficult having our first match be a league contest, but I am happy with how the girls adjusted according to the competition.”
Chimacum plays at Cedar Park Christian today.
Crescent Jamboree
PORT ANGELES — The Crescent volleyball team is off to a nice start.
It was only a jamboree and no true winner was crowned, but Loggers coach Alex Baker is happy with this team’s 5-0 record at the Crescent Jamboree at Port Angeles High School.
Along with Crescent, five other North Olympic Peninsula teams participated in Wednesday’s event — Clallam Bay varsity and JV, Neah Bay, and the Port Angeles and Sequim C teams.
The teams played a one-set game against each of the other five teams. The Loggers went 5-0.
Baker was excited that his team was able to do so well despite losing five starters to graduation.
The Loggers also were missing a portion of their varsity squad.
“We played really strong and didn’t miss a beat,” Baker said.
Crescent played three freshmen. They played the entirety of one game.
“It was outstanding to see them play so well,” Baker said of the freshman trio.
