Winter ski bus signups Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Kiwanis Club of Port Townsend is again sponsoring the annual snow sports program at Stevens Pass Ski Area.

Registration forms have been provided to area schools.

Registration is Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Recreation Center, downstairs in the Port Townsend Community Center, corner of Tyler and Clay streets.

The six-trip program begins Saturday, Jan. 17.

Contact Stevens Pass directly for lift ticket prices and purchase. Transportation cost is $130. A paid adult or guardian must accompany participants who are in sixth grade and below on all trips.

This is the 40th year the Kiwanis Club has been involved with a snow sports program serving Jefferson County.

Roller derby bout

SEQUIM — The Port Scandalous Strait Shooters are uniting with their alumni for a bout at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. First St., on Saturday.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the match starting at 6 p.m.

Port Scandalous plays against the Grunge City Rollers out of Marysville in their last game of the year.

Tickets are $10 pre-sale — available at Drake U-Bake Pizza & Subs in Port Angeles, online at www.brownpapertickets.com or from a derby girl— or $12 at the door.

There will be a beer garden and a 50/50 raffle during the event.

Concessions are provided by the Boys & Girls Club.

Indoor soccer set

SEQUIM — Signups for the second annual Indoor Sequim FC Soccer League are underway

The league, with age-appropriate divisions for children age 9 and older and adults, will begin play on Sunday, Jan. 11 and continue through February.

Matches are held at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., with youth games running from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and adults stopping at 5 p.m.

Cost is $25 per player, with a $15 Washington State Youth Soccer Association insurance charge for any youth who did not play soccer during the fall.

PA swim club

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Swim Club hosted its first swim meet of the season at the William Shore Pool on Oct. 26.

Many of the club’s swimmers swam their best times at the meet.

The individual high points winners were: Sara Wilson for 8 and under girls, Owen Oakes for 8 and under boys, Sage Hunter for 10 and under girls, Alex Che for 10 and under boys,Nadia Cole for 11-12 girls, Alex Hretzog for 11-12 boys, Taylor Beebe for 13-14 girls, Milo Atwater for 13-14 boys and Tristin Butler for 15 and over boys.

Maxwell second

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Port Angeles graduate Alison Maxwell placed second at the NCAA New England Regional cross country meet over the weekend.

Maxwell’s finish was the best of the meet for the third-ranked Middlebury Coollege women, who took second at the meet.

Maxwell ran the 6-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 48.9 seconds.

She and Middlebury will complete at the NCAA championship meet Saturday in Wilmington, Ohio.

Earlier this month, Maxwell took first at the NESCAC Cross Country Championships to become the first Middlebury women’s runner to win the individual title since 2000.

Maxwell, a senior, also was picked as the NESCAC’s Women’s Most Outstanding Performer.
