PORT ANGELES — More than 50 runners decked out in their brightest green running gear braved cold spring winds Saturday in the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K Fun Run.
The overall winner was Dave Lasorsa (running in the 51-plus category) with a time of 22 minutes, 48 seconds. Gretchen Sotebeer was the top women’s runner with a time of 23:51.
Winners in each category were:
Men 18 and under — Easton Dempsey, first, 28:44; Zeke Gould, second, 39.18; Zander Smith, third, 39.50.
Women 18 and under — Ariana Cox, first, 341.32; Mia Busby, second, 33.53; Telicia busby, third, 37.37.
Men 19-35 — Mike Palmer, first, 28:40; Daniel Doran, second, 38.11; Mike Gould, third, 39.26.
Women 19-35 — Gretchen Sotebeer, first, 23.51; Erika Anderson, second, 26.27; Stacy Palmer, third, 35.51.
Women 36-50 — Angela Busby, first, 25.56; Tina Moody, second, 30.25; Becca Busche, third, 33.19.
Men 51-plus — Dave Lasorsa, first, 22.48; Drew McGinley, second, 24.20; Roy Oesterhaus, third, 24.45.
Women 51-plus — Tiare Bailey, first, 29.30; Lori Schneider, second, 30.29; Shelia Fordrung, third, 31.24.
All-State Basketball
SHORELINE — Port Angeles’ Nizhoni Wheeler grabbed four rebounds in the 2A All-State basketball girls win over the 1A All-State girls 72-65 on Saturday at King’s High School.
Kenrick Doherty Jr., a Neah Bay senior, scored five points for the 1B All-State boys in their 132-106 loss to the 2B All-State boys in a game played Sturday at Mountlake Terrace High School. Doherty shot 2-for-2 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free-throw line.
Wheeler was one of just 11 2A seniors picked for the team, while Doherty was just one of 8seven boys picked to the 1B All-State team.
