Sequim’s Shea wins GNAC honor
BELLINGHAM — Western Washington University sophomore Sarah Shea, a Sequim High School alumna, has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week following her top-15 finish at the Palm Valley Classic.

Shea tied for 14th place in the 107-player field at the Palm Valley Classic played Friday and Saturday at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Sequim native finished the 36-hole tournament at 4-over-par 148, turning in a collegiate low round of even-par 72 in the opening round and a 4-over-par 76 in the final round.
In three tournaments this season, Shea ranks eighth in the GNAC with a scoring average of 82.2.
WWU has won three of the four GNAC Golfer of the Week awards this season, with second-year freshman Elise Sumner earning the honor in consecutive weeks March 8-14 and March 15-22.
Shea was an All-Peninsula Girls’ Golf MVP and Olympic League Girls’ Golf MVP in 2018 while she competed for Sequim. She went to the 2A State Golf Tournament three times, finishing as high as fifth her senior year.
Frosty Moss Relay
PORT ANGELES — Registrations are still being taken for the Frosty Moss Relay scheduled for May 15.
The Frosty Moss Relay is an 80-mile,15-leg team relay that goes on paved and unpaved trails from the Sol Duc Valley to Blyn. There is also a “Mini Moss” that is 30 miles long and begins at Ediz Hook.
The race is normally held in February, but had to be postponed to May. A team can have two to five runners (two to four for the Mini Moss).
The cost is $95 per person for the full Frosty Moss and $75 per person for the Mini Moss.
There will be wave starts due to COVID-19 precautions.

Peninsula Adventure Sports also has two other events coming up — The Olympic Adventure Trail 12K and half-marathon runs on April 17 and the first of three Gravel Unravel gravel bike races on May 1. The Olympic Adventure Trail Run is fully booked up with a waiting list.

The two other gravel bike races are the Sol Grinder (June 5) in and around the Sol Duc Valley and the Bon Jon Pedal Bender in the mountains between Quilcene and Blyn.

Klahowya 196, Port Angeles 211
BREMERTON — Port Angeles’ Nate Anderson finished second with a 45 in a golf match with Klahowya late last week.
Klahowya won the match 196-211. Medalist was the Eagles’ Drew Kraft with a 43. Edwin Daily and Cyrus Mills each shot 53 for the Roughriders, while Reid Schmidt shot a 60.
