PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College esports team picked up more wins last week, led by Sequim’s Kaulin King and Stormy Custer.
King won his first Super Smash Brothers match of the season, defeating his opponent from Carl Albert State College 4-1. Custer also got her first win, defeating her Smash Brothers opponent from Iowa Central 4-2. Teammate Brandon Johanes almost made it a Pirate sweep, going into seventh game against a player from Jackson College before falling.
The Rainbow Six team won by forfeit Monday, moving up to fifth place in the National Junior College Athletic Associate Esports league.
The Peninsula Fortnite players didn’t fare well this week, but Jarvis Rome and Jake Coulson have qualified for the NJCAAE final invitational tournament for Fortnite by placing in the top five in previous tournaments.
Razor clams closed
OLYMPIA — After recent test results, the Washington’s Department of Health has determined razor clams contain increasing levels of domoic acid. As a result, state health officials and shellfish managers closed Washington’s ocean beaches to razor clam digging.
All beaches in the state are closed to razor clam digging effective immediately.
“State shellfish managers will consider openings tentatively scheduled to start Oct. 31, depending on the results of upcoming marine toxin tests and public health officials’ ongoing monitoring of COVID-19 trends,” said Larry Phillips, WDFW’s coastal region director.
The department will make an announcement later this week on additional digs.
Domoic acid, a natural toxin produced by certain types of marine algae, can be harmful or even fatal if consumed in sufficient quantities.
Sunland results
SEQUIM — Sunland Golf Course released men’s club and SWGA weekly results from last week.
On Thursday, the SWGA had a medal play competition. Bobbie Piety was the gross winner of the first flight with a 93, while Cyndi Carpine came in second with a 95. Judy Flanders won the first flight net with a 77, while Cynthia Edel was second with a net score of 80.
Diane Bresnahan won the second flight gross with a 102, while Ann Hester finished second gross with a 123.
Eileen Larsen was the first place net winner in the second flight with a 74, while Nonie Dunphy was second net in the second flight with an 86.
On Thursday was a men’s mixer low net two best balls.
The team of Robert Mares, Ken Orth, George Foster and Dave Walp came in first with a 134, while the teams of Mike Mullikin, Frank Herodes, Bruce Mullikin with a blind draw and a team of Roger Olsen, Dan O’Claray, Jerry King and Mike Bresnahan both tied with 138s.
Bruce Mullikin won closest to the pin at 11 feet, 9 inches on hole No. 2, King at 6 feet on hole No. 5, Mike Mullikin at 12 feet, 11 inches on hole No. 15 and John Sims at 12 feet, 11 inches on hole No. 17.
