Sea Hawkers meeting tonight in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Sea Hawkers, the official Seattle Seahawks booster club for the Olympic Peninsula, will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the 7th Street Steak House at 271 S. Seventh Ave, behind the Sequim McDonald’s.

The club boasts more than 111 members from across the North Olympic Peninsula.

The group meets monthly, and beginning today, meeting sites will alternate between Sequim and Port Angeles.

A door prize will be offered and a raffle is planned.

Visitors can arrive at 6:30 p.m. to talk about the Hawks.

For more information, phone Damaris Rodriguez at 360-457-1392.

Tradition continued

PORT ANGELES — Members of the Port Angeles Swim Club recently completed Killer Kristmas, a winter break tradition started in 2012 by head coach Jessica Johnson.

Swimmers are tasked with swimming 30 kilometers, the distance from Ediz Hook to Victoria, B.C., in just three days.

Club members Karsten Hertzog, John Macias, Jaine Macias, Nadia Cole, Autumn Sheldon, Felicia Che, Kenzie Johnson and Emma Murray completed the challenge by swimming more than 6 miles per day from Dec. 28-30.

The group actually exceeded their goal with a final distance of 34,700 yards or 31.7 kilometers.

Volleyball club

PUYALLUP — Hood Canal Volleyball Club won its pool at the Puget Sound Region volleyball seeding tournament last weekend.

The team is comprised of players from Sequim, Chimacum and Quilcene school districts.

Team members will sell home-baked cookies at the Sequim Wal-Mart at 1110 W. Washington St. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to help defray the costs for this traveling team.

Saturday hoop shoot

PORT ANGELES — The Naval Elks Lodge 41st annual Hoop Shoot will take place at the Vern Burton Gym, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Boys and girls, ages 8-13, will compete for a chance to qualify for the national finals in Springfield, Mass., in April.

This Saturday’s contest winners go on to compete in the district competition Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Boys & Girls Club in Sequim.

Saturday shoot times are as follows:

■ 8-9 year olds: 9 a.m.

■ 10-11: 10:30 a.m.

■ 12-13: noon.

Contestants should arrive at least 20 minutes before their designated shoot time for check-in.

Vern Burton Gym is located at 308 E. Fourth St. in Port Angeles.

Area girls soccer team wins

The Peninsula Soccer Academy Storm King high school girls team defeated the Renton Patriots 3-0 on Sunday to move into a tie for third place in the North Puget Sound League.

Shanzi Cosgrove scored two goals and Chloe Sparks had one, while goalkeeper Madelyn Wenzl recorded her second shutout of the season.

The win makes Storm King’s home game against Tacoma on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Wally Sigmar Field even more special, allowing the winner to move up in the standings.
