Port Townsend’s Fraser claims cross country national title
BELLINGHAM — Port Townsend High School assistant cross country coach Ian Fraser won a national championship at the USA Track & Field Trail Half Marathon National Championships at Lake Padden last Saturday.
Fraser won the masters division (40-plus years) for his first nationa championship.
He covered the muddy, hilly course in 1:27:42 to place 20th overall, behind 13 athletes in their 20s and six in their 30s.
Also racing were Chimacum High School graduate Jeremy Anderson (45th place overall, 1:37:36) and Port Townsend resident Rob Bondurant (91th place overall, 25th master, 1:57:15).
Babe Ruth board
PORT ANGELES — Olympic Junior Babe Ruth is holding a board meeting next Tuesday to elect officers and board members for the upcoming season.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Volunteer Field.
Anyone interested in being a board member needs to submit a letter of interest before the meeting date to P.O. Box 1715, Port Angeles.
Lightning strike last
SEQUIM — The Storm King Lightning boys U-11 soccer team got back in the win column last Saturday at home by defeating NSC Galaxy 3-2 in another exciting finish.
The Lightning fell behind early but battled back to even it with Matt Mangano scoring an unassisted goal off of a tough shot from the right corner.
Harrison Bell then put the Lightning ahead early in the second half with an unassisted goal of his own.
After the Galaxy tied it at two, Kobe Applegate scored the game-winner off of an assist from Ethan Knight.
With the win, the Lightning still sit atop the North Puget Sound League standings with a record of 6-0-1.
Storm King is at Seattle United South next Saturday at 2 p.m.
