PC women win opener
OLYMPIA — The Peninsula basketball women won their first game of the year, completely shutting South Puget Sound down inthe fourth quarter to pull away for a 51-43 win.
The Pirates outscored South Puget Sound 10-2 in the fourth quarter, holding the Clippers to 1 for 12 shooting from the floor.
Ashlynn Sharp and Logan Luke led the Pirates with 13 points each. Sharp shot 3 for 8 from beyond the 3-point arc for most ofher points.
Newcomer Kameron Bowen had seven points and 10 rebounds. Sunshine Vicente had seven boards and five assists.
Neah Bay graduate Gina McCaulley, now with the Pirates, shot 2 for 4 from 3-point range for six points.
The Peninsula women (1-0) played a home game Saturday night against Highline after press deadline. The Pirates’ next gamewill be Tuesday in Longview against Lower Columbia College and Port Angeles High School grads Cheyenne and NizhoniWheeler.

Neah Bay’s season ends at the hands of No. 1 Odessa
MOSES LAKE — Neah Bay’s football season came to an end against No. 1-ranked Odessa on Saturday as the Red Devils fell 71-8 in the state 1B playoffs.
Neah Bay went into the game ranked No. 8. Odessa is ranked No. 1 for a reason. The undefeated Tigers have scored as much as 95 and 92 points in a game and have scored more than 80 points seven times.
The Red Devils got their touchdown in the third quarter on a 31-yard run by Josey Tyree. The point-after was a pass from Meric Soeneke to Jay Brunk.
Neah Bay finished the season 5-6 overall, but the season saw the Red Devils’ return to the state 1B playoffs after a one-year hiatus.
