PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College esports team had mixed success in matches Monday and Tuesday, with the biggest wins coming from Peninsula’s Tyler Welsh and Brandon Johanes.
Welsh defeated his Carl Albert State College (Oklahoma) opponent 4-0 in a Super Smash Bros match Tuesday, while teammate Johanes escaped with a narrow 4-2 nod over a Gogebic Community College (Michigan) competitor.
The week’s other highlight came from Jarvis Rome, who managed a top-five finish out of 45 competitors in Fortnite play on Monday.
The Rainbow Six team fell 2-0 to Hawkeye CC (Iowa), also on Monday.

Sounders beat Salt Lake
SEATTLE — Jordan Morris scored his eighth goal of the season midway through the first half, Yeimar Gómez Andrade added a goal on a header early in the second half, and the Seattle Sounders beat Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Seattle (9-3-3) padded its lead atop the Western Conference with its third straight win and fifth in the last six matches.
Real Salt Lake (4-6-6) lost its second straight match and dropped into ninth place in the Western Conference.
Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer coached his 400th match with the franchise at the various levels the Sounders have played in their history. And it nearly got off to a perfect start with Morris appearing to score inside the first minute, but the goal was disallowed after Morris was flagged for being offside.
There was no question about his goal in the 28th minute, as Morris found himself in the right spot to redirect Cristian Roldan’s cross past goalkeeper Andrew Putna.
Andrade added what proved to be the winner in the 61st minute, breaking open on a free kick delivery from Nicolas Lodeiro. It was his second goal of the season.
Real Salt Lake controlled the final 20 minutes after a Seattle own goal in the 68th minute cut the deficit in half. But RSL failed to test Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei and did not record a shot on target in the match.
Seahawks make signing
RENTON — Looking to bolster the interior of their defensive line, the Seattle Seahawks signed former All-Pro Damon “Snacks” Harrison to their practice squad Wednesday and he could make his debut as early as Sunday against Minnesota.
The move could be a strong one by Seattle, which added another option to a defensive tackle rotation that already includes starters Poona Ford and Jarran Reed, and backups Bryan Mone and Anthony Rush.
Seattle didn’t need to clear a spot on the 53-man roster for Harrison by adding him to the practice squad. The Seahawks could call up Harrison for Sunday’s matchup with the Vikings, depending on his conditioning and how he gets through practice this week, coach Pete Carroll said.
“He’s been a real force in the league,” Carroll said. “He’s got a real special style, and he’s so big and so strong and stout in the middle. This opportunity to get him now and to get him on the practice squad is to give him some chance to work and get ready and learn what we’re doing and see where he can fit in as soon as possible.”
