PC teams sweep at friendlies
TUKWILA — The Peninsula men’s and women’s soccer teams completed preconference sweeps Friday with wins at the NWAC Preseason Friendlies at the Starfire Soccer Complex.
The men beat Spokane 2-0 with goals by Hide Inoue (unassisted) and Nico Hernandez, with an assist to Jonathan De Motta. Inoue also had a goal in the Pirates’ season-opening 2-1 win Thursday over Highline.
Keeper Evan Scholes made six saves and gets credit for the shutout. The Pirates had 10 shots on goal.
The women beat Spokane 3-0 with a team goal, a goal by Sammy Howa, with an assist to Chimacum’s Grace Johnson and an unassisted goal by Kayla Alcott. Johnson also had a goal and an assist in the Pirates’ season-opening 3-1 win over Clark on Thursday.
Chloe Keenan-Merlo made six saves in goal and gets credit for the shutout for the women. Peninsula had 11 shots on goal.
The women have games today and Monday at Wally Sigmar Field in Port Angeles. They play the University of Northern British Columbia at 2 p.m. today and play the University of Mary at 11 a.m. Monday.
Adult coed soccer
PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for an adult coed soccer league presented by the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and Peninsula College.
Men ages 16 and older and women ages 18 and older and not playing high school soccer are eligible to participate.
The cost is $55 per player.
The season will begin Sunday, Sept. 8.
Individual players will be placed on teams on an “as needed” basis.

Football car wash
PORT HADLOCK — Chimacum Youth Football will hold a car wash benefit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Ferinos Pizza, 846 Ness Corner Road.
Donations will go toward program scholarships, gear, field rental and more.
Fort Townsend run
PORT TOWNSEND — The 19th annual Fort Townsend State Park 4-mile Trail Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1.
Runners and walkers will travel along park trails winding through old growth trees and along the bluff overlooking Port Townsend Bay, finishing on the lower parade ground of the former Army fort.
Registration is available the day of the race from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in The Friends Barn.
Entry fees are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 16 and younger.
Awards will be given for first through third place for the top overall male and female finishers, for the oldest and youngest finisher, and first place for male and female finishers in each of eight age brackets from 13 and under to 70-plus.
All who complete the run/walk will receive a “Finisher” ribbon at the end of the race.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Port Townsend High School Cross Country Team and Fort Townsend State Park.
Complimentary parking is provided by Friends of Fort Townsend; no Discover Pass is required.

Hawks’ Moore out
RENTON — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver David Moore will miss the start of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury in practice.
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that the team is still figuring out the extent of the injury. But Carroll said he does not expect Moore to be available for Week 1 against Cincinnati. Moore suffered the injury during Thursday’s practice.
Moore was expected to be in the mix among Seattle’s wide receivers after having 26 catches for 445 yards and five touchdowns last season. He’s also been an option in the return game.
