Casino Night tickets still available
PORT ANGELES – Tickets are still available for the 2015 Pirate Casino Night, one of Peninsula College’s signature athletic fund raising events, set for 6 p.m. Friday at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn.
The evening will feature entertainment from touring comedian Corey Rodrigues, a silent auction, a buffet dinner and desert, casino games, and an open bar.
Proceeds go toward scholarships for student athletes.
The silent auction includes more than 25 items including a Russell Wilson autographed football, two golf packages, $2,000 worth of oak flooring, an autographed Al Michaels package, an autographed Marshawn Lynch photo, an overnight Seattle Mariners/Red Lion Hotel package, a stay-and-play casino package to Angels of the Wind Casino or Tulalip Hotel and Casino, and more.
Tickets are $90 each, or $155 for a pair.
Headlining the evening is Rodrigues, who has performed on a variety of cable television shows, was the 2011 winner of the Funniest Comic in New England contest, and a semifinalist in the Boston Comedy Festival.
Rodrigues also recently starred in an independent film “Business Is War,” a comedy directed by the late Kemal Gordon.
The evening, hosted by KONP radio personality Scooter Chapman, will feature a welcome from Peninsula College President Luke Robins, a brief talk about athletics from Athletic Director Rick Ross, and a speech from student-athlete Emily Flinn.
Admission to the event also includes the opportunity for participants to ride in the Black Pearl, the Peninsula College bus, to and from the event.
It will depart from the Port Angeles Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., between 5:15-5:30 p.m. and return at 10 p.m.
The Red Lion, meanwhile, plans to offer a pre-event party in the Crab House Lounge from 3 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. with “buy one, get one” appetizer rates and happy hour pricing, as well as a special hotel rate of $89 for non-view rooms and $109 for water view rooms for Casino Night participants.

Registration today
PORT ANGELES — North Olympic Baseball and Softball will have its final in-person registration for boys ages 5-12 and girls 5-16 at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.
Those registering for the upcoming season need to complete the registration form and submit it along with a copy of the players birth certificate and the $25 registration fee.
The February board meeting will follow the registration for those interested in volunteering.
Registration also can be done online by going to the North Olympic Baseball and Softball website at tinyurl.com/PDN-Signups and printing the registration form and mailing it, along with the copy of the birth certificate and player fee to the address on the registration form.
Gymnasts compete
TACOMA — Sixteen gymnasts represented Klahhane Gymnastics at the Charity Choice Invitational held recently at the Tacoma Trade and Convention Center.
More than 2,000 gymnasts from 11 states, Canada and Costa Rica competed on behalf of a charity of their choice.
At the end of the meet over $5,000 was donated to various charities.
Klahhane Gymnastics represented the Cure JM Foundation, which works to fight juvenile myositis, a group of rare and life-threatening autoimmune diseases, in which the body’s immune system attacks its own cells and tissues.
Emma Sharp earned a bronze medal on the balance beam with a 9.05, and was ninth all-around in Level 6 Jr. A competition with a score of 34.85.
Anne Edwards, Gracie Sharp and Zoe Smithson also performed well in the Level 6 competition with all girls receiving a state qualifying score.
Jolene Vaara, Susannah Sharp, Morgan Mattix and Kori Miller competed in the Level 4 competition.
Miller led the group with a silver medal in the all-around, and an individual bronze with an 8.95 on floor exercise.
Mattix finished sixth all-around with a with a score of 34.125.
Cindy Liang was the top competitor for Klahhane in Level 3 competition taking second on vault with an 9.275 and eighth all-around with a score of 34.80.
Samantha Robbins scored a 9 on the floor exercise, good for fifth place, with Taryn Johnson earning eighth on the vault with a 9.05. Also competing were Elena Gonzalez, Kinzley Henrickson, Dylan Baermann, Kathryn Jones and Julia Jack.
