PA teams meet in Presidents’ title game
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles White 8th-grade team won their division championship at the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation’s Red Lion Presidents’ Day Youth Basketball Tournament last weekend.
PA White beat PA Green 46-43 as John Vaara hit three free throws in the final 23 seconds.
A total of 67 teams from all over western Washington participated.
The final standings were:
Boys 4th Grade Division — Bainbridge Roots, first; White River Sting, second; Port Angeles Green, third; South Kitsap Elite, third; Port Angeles White, fifth; LaPush BallStars, sixth. Championship Game: Roots 35, Sting 30.
Boys 5th Grade Division — Marysville, first; White River Sting, second; Sequim Wolves Gold, third; Bainbridge Roots, fourth; Port Angeles White, fifth; Forks Spartans, sixth; South Kitsap Elite, seventh; Enumclaw Hornets, eighth, Sequim Purple, ninth; Anacortes Seahawks, 10th; Drive (Poulsbo), 11th; Port Angeles Green, 12th. RENTON — Port Angeles’s Liam Clark was named the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 4-10 thanks to two monster games.
Clark, a 6-foot-7 post, recorded a triple-double in a 60-43 win over North Mason on Jan. 19 with 19 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks. He followed that up with 16 points, 16 rebounds, eight blocks, and five steals in the Roughridgers’ victory over Kingston on Jan. 26.
Port Angeles Parks and Recreation and the Elwha Klallam Tribe hosted the Port Angeles President’s Day Classic basketball tournament this weekend in Port Angeles. Eight teams competed in the 8th grade boys division, with Port Angeles White defeating PA Green 46-43 in the championship game. John Vaara iced two free throws to go ahead 45-43 with 23 seconds left, then added another free throw later. Pictured are both the PA White and PA Green teams.
