PRIEST RIVER, Idaho — Fifteen Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association athletes traveled to Priest River in northern Idaho for the Head of the Pend Oreille Regatta and OPRA dominated the event by winning nine of the 11 junior races.
OPRA juniors and junior rowers from Coeur d’Alene Rowing Association faced each other for a friendly competition. These two teams made up the majority of the 60 juniors who participated in this year’s regatta. Juniors from the Rockies Rowing Club, Nelson Rowing and Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association completed the field. The regatta had 45 entries — the largest number of entries in its seven-year history.
OPRA novices also competed for the first time in a head race and won in every event they entered.
For many OPRA athletes, it was their first time rowing on a river.
Winners announced for Crab Fest 5K
PORT ANGELES — The winners of the Crab Fest 5K Fun Run were announced this weekend. Winners of Saturday’s race were:
Men under 40 division — Jackson Oliver with a time of 17 minutes, 23 seconds.
Men over 40 division — Eric Dieterle, 24:46.
Women under 40 division — Kyrsten McGuffey, 20:20.
Women over 40 — Tara Martin Lopez, 24:36.

Basketball Camp set
PORT ANGELES — The Chris Hyppa Basketball preseason training camp will be held at Peninsula College on Saturday and Sunday for kids between first and 12th grades.
The trainers will be Arvin Mosely, Mark Wilkerson and Jimmy Anderson.
The first session for kids in first through sixth grades will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The second session for kids from seventh to 12th grades will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
