Munyagi selected for WIAA honor
NEAH BAY — Neah Bay High School sophomore Rwehabura Munyagi Jr., has been selected as the Class 1B boys Athlete of the Week by Washington Interscholastic Activities Association staff for achievements in football.
Munyagi was nominated by a community member for his efforts at quarterback and on defense in the Red Devils’ 62-12 state quarterfinal victory against Seattle Lutheran on Friday, Nov. 20.
Munyagi was 7 of 11 passing for 131 yards and three TDs in the game. He also rushed for 65 yards.
On defense, Munyagi racked up two fumble recoveries and returned an interception 58 yards for a score.
In recognition of his accomplishment, Munyagi will receive a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week T-shirt and a certificate.
Winners also are posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com.
Rain-Deer fun run
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the 15th annual Rain-Deer Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, Dec. 19.
The 5K/10K run or walk will start at City Pier at 1 p.m. and follow the Waterfront Trail out and back.
There will be shirts and antlers for pre-registered participants and prizes for best costumes.
The cost is $23 per person, $11 for ages 18 and younger.

Stevens wins pair
PORT ANGELES — Stevens Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams recently picked up wins against Chimacum.
In the eighth-grade contest, Stevens rolled 57-11 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Stevens shined defensively, both on the ball and in its defensive rotations.
The Port Angeles team led 25-2 at halftime.
Anton Kathol led Stevens with 17 points and seven rebounds. Lucas Jarnagin added 10 points and seven boards and Ethan Flodstrom scored six points and had five rebounds.
The Stevens seventh-graders held down Chimacum 51-17.
Adam Watkins and Kamron Meadows led Stevens with 12 points apiece. Jacob Felton and Wyatt Hall each added six for Stevens.
