SPORTS BRIEFS: Lifeguard course registration due Saturday

SEQUIM — Lifeguard certification courses will be hosted by the YMCA of Sequim in August.

The courses includes two online systems, classroom training and pool sessions.

Pre-class swim workouts are available for anyone who needs to improve their swim skills.

Completion of the class will provide a Lifeguard Certification plus CPR, First Aid, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Registration is open through Saturday, and the courses are set Aug. 3-4, 10-11 and 17.

Students must be 16 by the final day of class, complete the swim test by the registration date and the online learning system by the first day of training.

‘The Sandlot’ outdoors

SEQUIM — Sequim Little League will host a free outdoor movie screening of “The Sandlot” on Saturday at the Sequim Little League fields, 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

Gates open at 8 p.m. and the movie will start at dusk.

Light concessions will be available at the concession stand.

Whiffle ball games will be played on Murillo Field before the movie.

Attendees can bring blankets and chairs.

Board meeting set

SEQUIM — Sequim Little League has a number of board positions and committee opportunities for the 2025 season and will hold a board meeting July 24.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the clubhouse at 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

An opportunity for questions and answers will be provided as well as additional information on becoming a part of the team.

Open positions include: baseball vice president, softball vice president, baseball player agent, umpire in chief, concessions manager, uniforms/sponsors/fundraisers, coaching coordinator/equipment as well as scheduling and field maintenance volunteers.

Run/Walk for Justin

CHIMACUM — Registration is underway for the Run/Walk for Justin, a 5K/10K and virtual race to support 2012 Chimacum High School graduate Justin Morris set for Aug. 3.

Born and raised in Chimacum, Morris is married with a young daughter and works as a corrections officer while living in Ellensburg.

Morris was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and his treatments are all located in western Washington.

The run/walk is designed to raise funds to support travel and living expenses for Morris.

Kids 12 and younger are free to participate alongside a guardian.

The course will start and end at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chimacum, 10104 Rhody Drive, and will be an out-and-back through neighboring H.J. Carroll Park on crushed gravel.

There will be water on the course and snacks at the finish line.
