Holiday run slated for PA waterfront

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Rain-Deer Fun Run/Walk starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.

The 5- or 10-kilometer run/walk will start at City Pier and follow the Waterfront Trail out and back.

There will be shirts and antlers for pre-registered participants and prizes for the best costumes.

The cost is $23 for adults and $11 for 18 and younger.

Stevens hoopers

PORT ANGELES — The seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams at Stevens Middle School have each started the season 2-0 with wins against Chimacum and Forks.

The Stevens eighth-graders rolled to a 22-6 halftime lead on the way to a 61-20 win over Chimacum.

Kyle Benedict led the team with 22 points and four rebounds.

Liam Clark was active on the boards with a team-high 11 rebounds and also chipped in with eight points.

Bo Bradow had nine points and seven rebounds for Stevens.

Anton Kathol had 20 points to lead the seventh-graders in their victory over Chimacum.

Brendon Roloson-Hines had 11 points and Alex Lamb also was in double figures with 10 points.

Strong second and fourth quarters propelled the eighth-graders to a 52-40 win against Forks.

Benedict again led the team in scoring with 11, Joel Wood had 10 points, Bradow scored nine and hauled down 10 rebounds and Gabe Long and Garrett Edwards each scored eight.

Derek Bowechop and Kathol both scored 14 in the seventh-grade team’s 60-13 blowout of Forks.

Hines and Lucas Jarnigan tallied eight points apiece for Stevens.

Stevens hosts Port Townsend today.

Babe Ruth meetings

PORT ANGELES — Meetings of the Olympic Jr. Babe Ruth board are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. at Volunteer Field.

These meetings are open to the public.

Frazier honored

BREMERTON — Former Port Angeles Roughrider and current Olympic College sophomore Mariah Frazier was recently named to the Clackamas Thanksgiving Invite all-tournament team.

Olympic rallied from a first-day loss to post two straight wins and finish fourth at the eight-team event.

Frazier scored 10 points and had six rebounds and two steals in a loss to Southwestern Oregon; 20 points, four steals and four boards in a win against the George Fox College JV; and nine points, 12 rebounds, two steals and two assists in a fourth-place game win against Mount Hood.

Frazier and Olympic visit Port Angeles to play Peninsula at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21.
