Harbinger, Smuggler’s win kickoff tourneys

PORT ANGELES — Smuggler’s Landing and Harbinger Winery won the Port Angeles Park and Recreation’s Men’s and Women’s Slowpitch Softball Kickoff tournaments this weekend.

Harbinger Winery won the women’s tournament by beating Shirley’s Cafe 10-4 in the championship game. Smuggler’s Landing won the men’s tournament by beating the Moose Lodge Bulls 22-19. Smuggler’s got a bit of revenge on the Bulls for a 6-4 loss earlier in the tournament.

Harbinger Winery went undefeated on the day, earlier beating Slung Down 23-0, Shirley’s Cafe 13-2 and the Elwha Bravettes 12-2. Shirley’s Cafe lost only to Harbinger Winery, beating Law Office of Alan Millet 9-3, Airport Garden Center 11-1 and Law Office of Alan Millet again 9-6 and the Elwha Bravettes again 9-2.

For the men, Smuggler’s Landing beat Slung Down 13-7, the Elwha Braves 10-0, the Elwha Braves again 12-8, Slung Down again 16-0 and Stamper Chiropractic 12-3. The Bulls went into the championship game undefeated, having beaten the U.S. Coast Guard 21-0, Ace Michaels 11-7, and Stamper Chiropractic 12-7.

The final standings were

Women’s Division — Harbinger Winery, first; Shirley’s Cafe, second; Elwha Bravettes, third; Law Office of Alan Millet, fourth; Airport Garden Center, fifth; Jace Real Estate, sixth; Slung Down, seventh.

Men’s Division —Smuggler’s Landing, first; Moose Lodge Bulls, second; Stamper Chiropractic, third; Slung Down, fourth; Basic Ballers, fifth; Elwha Braves, sixth; Angeles Plumbing, seventh; Kaboom Salon, seventh; Crozier Craft, ninth; Ace Michaels, 10th; O.S.P. LEKT Hitmen, 11th; Evergreen Collision, 12th; Team Thomsen Realtors, 12th; U.S.Coast Guard, 12th; Westport, 12th.

Sequim wins 10-0

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Shelby Jones pitched a two-hit shutout as the Wolves beat Kingston 10-0 to jump into third place in the Olympic League 2A Division.

The Wolves scored four runs in the third and three in the fourth in Friday’s game. Adrienne Haggerty went 3 for 4, while Isabelle Dennis was 2 for 3 with a triple and Chloie Sparks was 2 for 4 with a double.

Sequim (5-4, 7-7) was scheduled to play Monday afternoon against Bremerton. They are next set to play at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Coupeville in a nonleague game.

Junior Babe Ruth

PORT ANGELES — In Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action Sunday, Athletes Choice pitchers Kamron Meadows and Trenton Indelicato combined for five innings of no-hit ball in a 10-0 win over Swains.

Athletes Choice had 12 hits for the game, with Wyatt Hall tallying two hits, including a triple, and Hunter Robinson hitting a double and a single. Gunnar Volkmann and Meadows had doubles, while Indelicato, Sean Hanrahan, Tanner Walker, Brayden Emery and Aaron Edmiston all had singles. Swains pitcher Tanner Price came in and was able to limit Athletes Choice hitters to three runs in three innings of work.
