SPORTS BRIEFS: Discovery Bay Ladies’ summer results

PORT TOWNSEND — Lynn Pierle was the winner of the Discovery Bay Ladies’ “Better nine” with a score of 34.5 on Thursday. Other top finishers were Janie Marcus, second, 35.5; Sheila Kilmer, third, 38; Edna Chicarell, fourth, 39; and Barb Aldrich, fifth, 39.5.

On Aug. 17, the Discovery Bay Ladies played “Beat the Pro” with Discovery Bay pro Jeff Kent. Successfully beating the pro were Wanda Synnestvedt, net 67; Jane Peoples, net 68; Starla Audette, net 69; Kilmer, net 73; Aldrich, net 74; and Pierle, net 75.

The Discovery Bay Ladies on Aug. 10 played “Criss-Cross”. Winners were: Kilmer, first, 22.5 (Including an ace on Hole 16); Dee Sweeney, second, 26; Marcus, third, 28.5; Aldrich, fourth, 29.5.

On July 27, the Discovery Bay Ladies golfers hosted the annual match play tournament with the Dungeness Ladies Club. Discovery Bay reclaimed the traveling trophy winning the match with 14.5 points to 12.5. Winning their matches for Discovery Bay were Barb Matter, Marianne Ott, Pierle and Kilmer.

Fun Walk set

SEQUIM — The Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic-The Sequim Free Clinic will hold its 13th annual Fun Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 9, starting at Trinity United Methodist Church at 100 Blake Ave. in Sequim.

This year, the course will be a 5K Fun Walk. For people who usually walk the one-mile course, they still can.

People can now register online. Go to the clinic’s website (www.sequimfreeclinic.org) and click on the events page for more information. Otherwise, registration ($10 per adult, free for those 12 and under) opens at 8 a.m. for individuals, families and teams who choose to walk or run course through Carrie Blake Park, the Water Reuse Demonstration Site and a part of the Olympic Discovery Trail. All pets must be leashed on the walk.

When you come to the Fun Walk this year, take a few moments to visit the clinic’s “Health Fair”. There will be screening for blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen saturation. Become familiar with the AED (defibrillator) and learn about disaster preparedness.

Through the participation of various specialist departments from the Olympic Medical Center, a variety of health and wellness information and services also will be available. The Walk and Health Fair is a fun way to support the clinic’s mission of providing continued health care access to those in need in the community. No pets are allowed inside the building.

All proceeds from the walk go to the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, supplying urgent and chronic medical carefor the uninsured and underinsured. For more information, call Sara Nicholls at 582-2976.

Big Hurt registration

PORT ANGELES — Racers who want to receive a Big Hurt t-shirt as part of the race registration must sign up by Thursday. Registration will remain open after that date, and participants can register until September 22. Race and registration information can be found at bighurtpa.com

Big Hurt is also looking for volunteers to help at West End Park. Contact olympicadventuretrail@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering for the event. Volunteers who sign up by Thursday will also get a Big Hurt t-shirt.
