SPORTS BRIEFS: Crescent teams fall to Darrington; PA’s Borde wins at Fife Tournament

Crescent boys fall to Darrington

JOYCE — Down two starters, the Crescent Loggers basketball team had trouble keeping up with a good-shooting Darrington squad in a 68-29 loss this weekend.

“They shoot the ball very well and are a tough puzzle for us to figure out defensively. We had major turnover problems and the second quarter was brutal,” said coach Chris Ferrier.

“We did have some positives. We broke their press surprisingly well; we just had problems in the half court offense with turnovers. Colton O’Neel rebounded well inside and Brendan Bergstrom was very assertive offensively,” Ferrier said.

Bergstrom led Crescent with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Crescent (2-2) next hosts Quilcene (0-3, 0-5) at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Darrington 68, Crescent 29

Crescent 8 5 9 7 — 29

D’ton 14 23 15 16 — 68

Crescent (29) — Bergstrom 10, B. Emery 6, Ferrel 5, Sage 5, O’Neel 2.

Logger girls felled

JOYCE — A girls team battling the flu hung with Darrington for the first half, but Crescent couldn’t keep up in the second half in a 63-30 loss.

“Considering how we were feeling, we did some great things. [Chloe] Conat messaged me four hours before the game letting me know she was running a temp, but would be there as she didn’t want to let the team down,” said coach Kelly Serrianne.

Conat ended up leading Crescent in points with 11, adding eight rebounds and four steals, while Cydne Moore scored 10 points and pulled down nine boards.

Crescent was down just 31-18 at the half, but Darrington pulled away with a 14-6 third quarter.

Crescent (2-2) next hosts Quilcene (2-1, 3-2) at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

Darrington 63, Crescent 30

Crescent 6 12 6 6 — 30

D’ton 15 16 14 18 — 63

PA’s Borde wins

FIFE — Port Angeles’ Adam Borde won the 138-pound weight class at the Larry Brown Wrestling Tournament this weekend.

The Roughriders’ Josh Boe finished third at 145 pounds.

Port Angeles took a small contingent to the tournament due to the flu. The Riders only took eight wrestlers to the meet and had seven starters out with the flu.

The Roughrider girls next wrestle at North Kitsap Thursday for an Olympic League dual. The boys travel to Bremerton on Friday for the two-day Hammerhead Invitational at the Kitsap Pavilion.
