SPORTS BRIEFS: Coed soccer league forming in Port Angeles, WIAA has scholarship for high school seniors, Port Angeles eighth-graders fare well at hoops tourney

Coed soccer league forming in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A coed soccer league for adults is forming in Port Angeles.

The league is run by the city of Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and Peninsula College.

Games will begin Sunday, April 15 and will be played at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.

The cost is $55 per player.

Players can register at the Parks and Recreation office in the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

Individual players will be placed on teams on an “as needed” basis.

WIAA scholarship

RENTON — Applications for the 6th Annual Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Smart Choices Scholarship Program are due April 1. The Smart Choices Scholarship Program recognizes one female and one male high school senior for their achievements in athletics/activities, the community, and the classroom. The selected recipients will each receive $5,000 college scholarships to the college or university of their choice.

Additionally, $8,000 in Smart Choices Scholarship money will be awarded to the four female and four male finalists. Each of these individuals will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.

High school seniors can apply at wiaa.com/SmartChoices.
