Pickleball tournament set in Sequim

SEQUIM — The second annual Blue Hole Bash Pickleball Tournament will be hosted by the Sequim Picklers at Carrie Blake Park Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29.

Area, regional and international players will play on the eight-court outdoor pickleball facility at the park in this sanctioned United States Pickleball Association Medal Match Only tournament.

The cost of registration for this event is $35, plus additional fees per event entered.

USAPA-registered players from 3.0 to 5.0 ratings are invited to register, with Open (all ages) and Senior (55+) Divisions for Women’s and Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

The minimum age required to play is 12, as of Dec. 31, 2019.

The registration deadline is Saturday.

Firewood benefit

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School boys basketball program is selling raffle tickets for a firewood fundraiser.

Three winners will be selected with each winner receiving a cord of firewood.

Tickets are $5 each, or $20 for five.

Ticket buyers should provide their name, contact number and address on a raffle ticket.

Wood will be delivered Saturday.

Uvila fall league

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Port Angeles High School product Cole Uvila recently wrapped his second season pitching in the Texas Rangers minor league organization.

Uvila and his Class A-Advanced Down East Wood Ducks went a Carolina League-best 87-52 this season before being knocked out in the Carolina League Semi-Finals last week.

Uvila made one postseason appearance, striking out three and walking four while allowing no runs in a 1 1/3-inning stint Sept. 7.

In the regular season, Uvila was a combined 7-3 in 38 games, posting a 2.23 ERA in 64.2 innings with 95 strikeouts and 49 walks with Down East and the Hickory Crawdads.

He was selected as one of seven Rangers prospects to compete in the six-team Arizona Fall League as a member of the Surprise Saguaros. The Saguaros begin Fall League play today in a six-week campaign.

Berard gets an ace

SEQUIM — Bob Berard, a Sunland Golf & Country Club member, sank a hole-in-one on Aug. 30 at Sunland.

Berard used a 7-iron to ace the 125-yard, par-3 17th hole.

The feat was Berard’s fourth lifetime hole-in-one.

Go Big Tournament

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness will host its annual Go Big Golf Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The event includes oversized everything — from 8-inch cups on all 18 holes, turkey legs, and 22-ounce beer, soda and water.

Format is a one-person scramble.

The cost is $70 for the public, $47 for members and employees, and includes green fees, cart and range balls.

Nightoberfest

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness will host Nightoberfest, a round of glow-in-the-dark golf open to all ability levels on Saturday, Oct. 12.

A party with hosted appetizers will kick things off at 5 p.m.

The two-person scramble format event on an 18-hole course made up entirely of par-3s will begin with a 6:30 p.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $65 per person for the public, $50 for Cedars members and employees.

Green fees, party, awards and equipment are included in the fee.

The most outrageous outfit will win an award.

Glow golf balls and glow sticks are included, players should bring their own golf clubs, flashlights and lanterns.
