Bike rodeo set for May 18 in Sequim
SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Bicycle Alliance will hold its second annual bike rodeo May 18 at Helen Haller Elementary School in Sequim.
The rodeo is for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade. The event’s goal is to instruct area youth in the safe operation of bicycles and to give parents basic tools to keep their kids safe on their bikes.
“We want kids and youth to have fun,” said event director Jeanie Robards. “We want them to keep riding after the bike rodeo. All interactions with participants should leave kids feeling proud of their efforts and empower them to try more difficult things. This is more than a bike lesson — It’s a life lesson.”
Among the skills and lessons taught at the rodeo are safe and cooperative riding on roads and trails, bike handling skills, bike control, slow speed balance, steering, acceleration, stopping and leaning. Participants’ bicycles will be inspected and adjusted by area bicycle shop experts, helmets will be fitted properly and once cleared, children will be shown how to maneuver their bikes through a series of skill and safety events in a controlled environment and under the guidance of skilled area cyclists. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the site.
The Olympic Peninsula Bicycle Alliance (www.olympicpeninsulacycling.com) is a non-profit organization working closely with government businesses and individuals to enhance bicycle safety and promote the Olympic Peninsula as a premier cycling destination.

Volunteers needed
SEQUIM — Volunteers are needed for the Railroad Bridge Run on Saturday in Sequim.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and the last participant should finish at 11 to 11:20 a.m. The race is a fundraiser for the Olympic Discovery Trail.
Anyone volunteering should arrive by 9 a.m. People will be needed to fill water and Gatorade cups and a person will be needed to wear a vest and flags to course marshal people across Carlsborg Road
Water stations will be the west side of Carlsborg Road and on the west side of Kitchen-Dick Road.

Storm King
PORT ANGELES — The Storm King FC Select teams will be holding soccer tryouts beginning in late April and through the first part of May.
The location for the tryouts will be the Agnew Soccer Fields at 1240 North Barr Road between Port Angeles and Sequim.
The U16-U19 tryouts will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday. The U10-U12 tryouts will be held Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The U13-U15 tryouts will be held Wednesday, May 8 and Friday, May 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
