PORT ANGELES — The Big Hurt, a four-legged endurance contest consisting of a 16.5-mile mountain bike, a 3-mile kayak, a 30-mile road bike and a 10-kilometer run, will return to Port Angeles this fall.
It was formerly held each year from 1997 to 2004, and the Big Hurt is now being resurrected for Saturday, Sept. 26 by area residents Scott Tucker, Tim Tucker and Lorrie Mittmann.
The event can either be completed as a four-person team with each participant taking a leg, relay style, or individuals can sign up for the Iron Division and attempt to complete the event solo.
All competitors will finish in downtown Port Angeles where live music and a beer garden will await next to the Red Lion Hotel and Hollywood Beach.
A registration event for the Big Hurt is planned at Harbinger Winery, 2358 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Soccer registration
PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for the adult coed soccer league, a partnership between the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and Peninsula College.
The league is open to ages 16 and older, provided the player is not playing in the fall high school soccer season.
Cost is $55 per player.
Games are held on the artificial turf at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.
The season will begin Sunday, Sept. 13.
Sign up forms are available at the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation office, 308 E. Fourth St.
Players without a team can phone 360-417-3550 to be placed on a free agent list.
The deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 28.
YMCA flag football
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula YMCA is adding an NFL Flag Football program with play starting Monday, Aug. 17.
Flag football is an alternative for parents who might hesitate letting their children start playing tackle football.
The YMCA will offer leagues for ages 5-6, 7-8 and 9-11.
Enrollment is $50 for YMCA members and $60 for the public, and can be made at the YMCA, 302 S. Francis St.,
Each player will receive an official NFL reversible team jersey.
The YMCA NFL Flag Football rules make sure every child plays at least half of every game while making friends and learning new techniques.
