Baseball skills testing set Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Baseball skills testing for the upcoming North Olympic Baseball and Softball season are set for the Lincoln Park fields Saturday and again Saturday, March 7.

The testing will be grouped by age level.

Players aged 12 test at 9 a.m., age 11 at 10 a.m., age 10 at 11 a.m., age 9 at 12:30 p.m., and ages 7-8 at 2 p.m.

Participation in skill testing by 7 year olds must be requested in writing prior to skill tests.

Players age 7 may advance if they are ready and do not take the place of an older child.

Voluntary baseball clinics for ages 9-12 will be offered from 4:30 p.m. to dark Monday through Wednesday.

Field conditions will dictate if skills tests or the clincs are held.

Wrestlers at Dome

PORT ANGELES — Six Olympic Mountain wrestlers competed at the Chuck Bullard Memorial Kids Folkstyle State Championships at the Tacoma Dome last Sunday.

Cole Anderson brought home third place in the Pee Wee 50 division.

He joined older brother Brady Anderson, a Port Angeles High School wrestler who finished third at 126 pounds at Mat Classic XXVII at the Dome a day before.

“Though none of our other five Olympic Mountain Wrestlers placed, all but one won at least two matches in a tough day of wrestling,” coach Erik Gonzalez said.

Other Olympic Mountain Wrestling competitors included Phoenix Flores in the Bantam 55 division, Dylan Mann in Bantam 60, Ethan Abrams in Intermediate 70, Jack Harrelson in Novice 85, and Jason Kibe in Novice 100.

Olympic Mountain will now take two weeks off before beginning the freestyle/Greco-Roman season with a practice on Monday, March 9.

Wrestling signups

PORT ANGELES — Signups are underway for Olympic Mountain Wrestling Club’s Freestyle/Greco-Roman season for boys and girls in grades K-12.

There are two options for participation.

The non-competitive option is $35, and includes a club T-shirt and Monday and Thursday practices at Port Angeles High School from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday March 9 through Thursday, April 29.

The competitive team membership is $100, valid for a year, and includes a club T-shirt and team singlet rental.

Practices are held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Port Angeles High School from 5:15 to 7 p.m. from March 9 through April 29.

Wrestlers will receive a USA wrestling card required to compete in all tournaments, accident insurance coverage, & “USA Wrestler” magazine.

The team will travel to select tournaments throughout both the folkstyle and freestyle/Greco-Roman seasons.

Wrestlers can sign up for either option at practice.
