SPORTS BRIEFS: All-league Olympic 2A volleyball team named; Sequim’s Gish WIAA Athlete of the Week

PORT ANGELES — Sequim, Port Angeles and East Jefferson players are well represented on the Olympic League North Division all-league squad.

Three Wolves players and three Roughriders players were selected to the first team in voting by league coaches.

Sequim senior setter Kalli Wiker, sophomore middle blocker Kendall Hastings and senior outside hitter Amanda Weller earned first-team nods for the Wolves.

Port Angeles senior middle blocker Jaida Wood, junior outside hitter Emi Halberg and her sister Lily, a sophomore outside hitter, were all named to the first team.

East Jefferson senior Katie Ballard middle blocker and junior setter/outside hitter Akira Anderson received second-team honors.

Joining them on the second team are Sequim senior middle blocker Jayla Julmist, senior outside hitter McKenna Hastings and senior defensive specialist Jessica Asselin.

Port Angeles senior Emma Olsen also was a second-team pick as libero/defensive specialist.

Kingston outside hitter Marion Stejer was voted league MVP.

Gish honored by WIAA

SEQUIM — Sequim senior boys soccer captain Eli Gish has been honored by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association as a Week 6 WIAA Athlete of the Week.

Gish notched five goals in the Wolves’ opening match against East Jefferson and scored another in a 2-0 win over rival Port Angeles.

This award is designed to honor student-athletes across the state for their outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities. Selections are based on nominations. A full list of weekly winners is available at wiaa.com/athleteoftheweek.

Gish will receive a letter of recognition from WIAA executive director Mick Hoffman, a certificate of achievement and a $25 Dick’s Sporting Goods e-gift card.
